The Enforcement Directorate(ED) today filed a chargesheet against former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram along with nine others in the Aircel-Maxis case. The chargesheet was filed in the Delhi Patiala House court.
P Chidambaram and his son Karti Chidambaram, who has been named in the INX media money laundering case, were provided a series of extensions by the apex court. The former minister was granted an interim relief on 31 May 2018, which was further extended to 3rd July and then to August 1, 2018.
Chidambaram who was on an interim relief will now appear in the court on November 26.
Chidambaram has been granted a series of extensions by the Delhi High Court with regard to interim relief from arrest in the case. On 31 May, Chidambaram was granted protection from arrest till 3 July. On 3 July, his interim protection was further extended to 1 August, and on that date, it was extended to 28 September.
Karti’s accountant Bhaskar Raman is among the nine persons named in the chargesheet.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the ED have been looking into the case since 2006, which further involved a lot of political vendettas.
