As the government extends the Income tax return filing date to 31st August, here are six simple ways for the verification of ITR
Via Aadhaar based OTP
To get your ITR verified via Adhaar OTP, your Adhaar must be linked with your mobile number. Your number must be registered in the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) database. Once the verification process is carried out you will receive an OTP on your registered mobile number. Enter the OTP for verification.
Generating EVC via Net-banking
If you have availed the Net banking facility of your bank account, you can verify your ITR. One must remember that only select banks allow you to e-verify your ITR. Also, before logging in to your bank account, ensure that you are not already logged in on the e-filing website.
Generating EVC via bank account
You can verify your income tax return using your bank account. But before that, you have to check with your bank as this facility is not available with all banks.
To check your ITR utilizing your bank account, you must pre-approve it. Go to the profile settings in your e-filing record to pre-approve your financial balance. Enter the required points, for example, your bank’s name, account number, IFSC code, and phone number. You are required to enter your mobile number that is there in the bank’s records.
Verifying tax-returns through demat account
The method of verifying through demat account is similar to the ITR validation through bank account. You must pre-validate your demat account to verify your tax return. You can use your demat account to generate EVC only after your details are validated by your depository.
Generating EVC through your bank ATM
Currently there are only six banks that help you verify your ITR through ATM, namely:
? Axis Bank Ltd
? Central Bank of India
? ICICI Bank
? State Bank of India
? Canara Bank
? IDBI Bank
Select the ‘Already generated EVC through bank ATM’ option to verify your ITR.
Sending signed ITR-V/Acknowledgement receipt
You can also verify your ITR without the above mentioned electronic methods by sending a signed copy of ITR-V (Acknowledgement receipt) to the Income Tax department. ITR-V is a one-page document that is to be signed in blue ink only. It must be sent via ordinary post or speed post and cannot be couriered. No supporting document is required along with the ITR-V. You will receive intimation via SMS on your mobile phone and email ID once your ITR is received by the tax department. This intimation is only for receipt of ITR-V, the intimation for processing of tax return is separate.
