Kerala records 2,910 new COVID cases

Covid-19 situation continues to be grim in Kerala where its capital alone has been witnessing over 500 cases daily. Kerala Health Minister KK Shailaja’s office in a statement said that there were 2,910 Covid-19 new cases reported on Monday.

18 deaths were also confirmed in the state taking the death toll to 553 for Kerala. Out of the new cases, 2,653 infections were through contact. Out of the new cases, the infection source of 313 persons still remains unknown. As many as 88 health workers were also confirmed COVID positive and 20 police personnel including ACP in the cantonment division were also tested positive on Monday.

The highest number of cases were reported from Thiruvananthapuram with 533 infections. 25,848 samples were tested in the past 24 hours. A record high of 3,022 recoveries was also reported in Kerala.

The district-wise statistics of positive cases are Thiruvananthapuram – 533, Kozhikode – 376, Malappuram – 349, Kannur – 314, Ernakulam – 299, Kollam – 195, Thrissur – 183, Palakkad – 167, Kottayam – 156, Alappuzha – 112, Kasaragod – 110, Idukki – 82, Wayanad – 18 and Pathanamthitta – 16.

Among the new COVID cases reported, 36 persons had returned from abroad while 133 returned from other states.

About 1,93,129 are home quarantine while 25,778 are under hospital observation. On Monday, 2,681 were admitted to hospitals. A total of 25,848 samples were tested on Sept 21. So far, and 24,50,599 samples were sent for testing in different categories.

In total 13 new COVID hotspots were identified in Kerala on Monday while 12 areas were removed from the list. Currently, there are 639 hotspots in the state.
