India ranks third worldwide in the number of fatalities after US and Brazil, and is the second worst-hit country after US: John Hopkins University study
India recorded 97,894 new coronavirus cases in 24 hours, tallying to a total of 51,18,253 infections. the country reported 1,132 deaths totalling up to 83,198 fatalities due to the virus.
Maharashtra is the worst affected state with over 10.7 lakh infections and 2,97,506 active cases. Karnataka has 1,01,645 active cases, Andhra Pradesh with 90279 active cases, Uttar Pradesh with 67002 active cases. Delhi with 30914 active cases, the state reported its highest single-day spike on Wednesday with 4,473 fresh cases.
The total number of tests conducted in 24 hours amount to 11,36,613, according to the Health Ministry data.
While the nation crossed the 50 Lakh mark on Wednesday, the parliament was informed of successful phase-1 clinical trials of indigenous vaccines developed by Bharat Biotech in collaboration with ICMR and Cadila Healthcare Ltd. The second phase of clinical trials is currently underway, as reported by State health Minister Ashwani Choubey.
