Smriti Irani of BJP contesting from Amethi for the Lok Sabha Elections 2019 revealed in her affidavit that she does not possess a college degree. Interestingly in affidavit in 2014 she declared that she was a graduate from the Delhi University in 1994. Her claims triggered a row in 2014 with the opposition alleging she was not a graduate.
Attacking Smriti at this revelation Congress leader Priyanka Chaturdevi mockingly said BJP should come up with a serial with title- “Kyunki Mantri Bhi Kabhi Graduate Thi” taking the tone of a serial ‘Kyunki saas bhi Kabhi Bahu thi’ in which the BJP leader played the lead.
The congress leader went on to say the serial’s opening line would be “Qualifications ke bhi roop badalte hain, naye-naye sache mein dhalte hain, ek degree jaati hai, bante affidavit naye hain (the minister was also a graduate once; the degrees are fiddled with and lied about in every affidavit).”
Filing her nomination to contest for the Lok Sabha Elections 2019, Smriti Irani in her poll affidavit said she had enrolled for an undergraduate course in Delhi University but “did not complete the three-year degree course.”
Smriti Irani mentioned in her affidavit that she passed secondary school examination in 1991 and senior secondary school examination in 1993. She said she did not complete her Bachelor of Commerce, a three year degree course from Delhi University’s School of Open Learning.
According to the affidavit Smriti Irani declared her assets worth over 4.71 crore. The BJP leader is also the main opponent of Congress President Rahul Gandhi in Amethi which he has been representing for 3 terms.
Amethi in Uttar Pradesh will go to polls in the fifth phase on May 6th. Election campaigning intensifies in the constituency as the polling for the 1st phase is already done with.
