It is said that UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi is banking on the DMK Chief MK Stalin to bring TRS and YSRCP in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh respectively, to talks on supporting the congress party led government at the centre.
MK Stalin has met TRS Chief K Chandrashekar Rao on May 13 over the latter’s proposed federal front. Through there were reports of Stalin declining support for federal front the DMK chief might as well mediate a post-poll alliance of TRS and TDP with Congress.
The two parties from the Telugu states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are going to be crucial for the formation of a government after the elections. TRS led by K Chandrashekar Rao is expected to sweep all the 17 Lok Sabha seats along with its ally AIMIM which is said to retain its Hyderabad LS seat.
In Andhra Pradesh, YSRCP is expected to win close to 22 seats out of 25 Lok Sabha seats in the state. Together TRS and YCP can form a formidable front which can turn the tide in case of a fragmented verdict without clear majority.
TDP Chief Chandrababu Naidu, after withdrawing support to the NDA government last year, is backing a Congress led government in the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections.
Earlier Naidu said he had no problem if TRS joined the anti-BJP alliance led by Congress party. However, he expressed reservations if YCP decided to join the anti-BJP front given both of them are rival parties in Andhra Pradesh.
Sonia Gandhi, with her experience of forming coalition governments in 2004 and 2009 General Elections, is gearing up efforts to forge an alliance with the support from regional parties of big states. Therefore she is said to be in touch with DMK Chief MK Stalin to hold negotiations and form a government at the centre.
Meanwhile YCP Chief Jagan has made it clear that whichever party promises to grant special status to Andhra Pradesh, he would support that party. Jagan also said he wouldn’t mind supporting KCR backed Federal front if it is in the best interest of the state.
Sonia Gandhi invited all the leaders of opposition parties in different states for a meet on the day of counting May 23rd to decide on forming a government in case of a fractured verdict. A day ago there were speculations that TRS and YCP may skip the meeting convened by Sonia Gandhi.
