Actor turned politician Shatrughan Sinha’s wife Poonam Sinha filed her nomination on Thursday to contest from Lucknow Lok Sabha seat. Poonam Sinha joined Samajwadi Party two days ago to contest against BJP candidate Rajnath Singh.
Poonam Sinha will contest from SP with the support of BSP and RLD to face BJP’s Rajnath Singh. Earlier, Samajwadi Party leader Ravidas Mehrotra confirmed Poonam Sinha’s candidature and that she will file nomination on 18th April.
Poonam Sinha was fielded from Lucknow to appeal the electorate which largely comprises of Kayastha and Sindhi communities. Poonam is a Sindhi and her husband Shatrughan Sinha is a Kayastha. The constituency houses 1.3 lakh Sindhi voters and 4 lakh Kayastha voters.
Chances of Poonam Sinha winning seem bright as she is widely popular for her social work in the region. In 2014 elections, Rajnath won with a 55.7 percent majority.
Lucknow will go to polls on May 6th in the fifth phase.
