Congress President Rahul Gandhi has emerged victorious from the Wayanad constituency in Kerala after losing Amethi to Smriti Irani. BJP’s Smriti Irani won Amethi in Uttar Pradesh which has been the congress bastion for decades and Rahul Gandhi had been representing the constituency since 2004.
Actor turned politician Smriti Irani campaigned in Amethi vehemently during the last five years going door to door and is gave a tough fight to Rahul Gandhi who had been representing the parliamentary constituency for the last 15 years.
Analysts say losing Amethi will be a massive jolt for the prospects of grand old party to play key role in national politics. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had campaigned extensively for brother but it looks like the voters in Amethi voted for a change of leadership.
As per the trends early in the day, BJP made a clean sweep in the General elections 2019 winning over 340 seats and is set to form the government for a 2nd term. In Uttar Pradesh, BJP retained its majority in the state with highest number of Lok Sabha seats.
In 2014, BJP’s Smriti Irani gave a close fight to the congress scion and this time she stood a step ahead.
