Hours after the historic Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha with the thumping majority, the nation lost its most successful right woman wing leader, Sushma Swaraj. Former External Affairs Minister and BJP stalwart breathed her last at All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS), Delhi, following a cardiac arrest. She was 67 years old. Her last rites will be performed today at the Lodhi crematorium.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled Sushma’s death on twitter calling it a “personal loss.”

“Sushma Ji was a prolific orator and outstanding Parliamentarian. She was admired and revered across party lines. She was uncompromising when it came to matters of ideology and interests of the BJP, whose growth she immensely contributed to,” PM Modi tweeted.

Following her news of demise, many Bollywood celebrities including Amitabh Bachchan, Rishi Kapoor, Lata Mangeshkar, Sanjay Dutt, Karan Johar, Arjun Kapoor and Boman Irani, expressed grief over Swaraj’s demise, describing her as “a true iron lady of our generation.”

Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan retweeted a post which features a picture of Swaraj with him. Along with the picture, he wrote, “An extremely sad news! A very strong politician, a sociable person, a wonderful spokesperson. Prayers for a peaceful soul.”

Anupam Kher went live on late Tuesday night and expressed loss on the “ unfortunate and sad” demise of the country’s first full-time woman finance minister.

Parineeti Chopra wrote how Sushma Swaraj inspired her on a personal level. “I hail from Ambala Cantt, same as Sushma Swaraj ji. Always felt proud that a woman from our small town made it big, and made a difference. Sushma ji rest in peace. You inspired me on a personal level.,” she wrote.
