Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga Review Star Rating: 3/5 three stars out of 5

Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga whoever chose the name of the film, needs an Oscar for just choosing it so aptly. Behind every Sweety is a secret waiting to unfold and this story is about the life of Sweety Sonam Kapoor. The film unfolds sweetly petal by petal making its statements boldly in all the colours of the rainbow.

Ek Ladki Ko Dekha To Aisa Laga revolves around a joint family based in Moga, Punjab. The boss is Balwinder Choudhry played by Anil Kapoor, He owns a garment factory but has a secret dream to be a chef. His daughter is the effervescent Sonam Kapoor Ahuja who too holds close to her a secret that she’s been in love with another woman all her life. All is good until Sahil Mirza Rajkummar Rao,s character and a playwright by profession meets Sweety. The rest would be telling the entire story so I’m not saying anymore.

Among the firsts that this film lets loose on the audience is Sonam Kapoor and her dad in real life too Anil Kapoor sharing screen space together. Both in their own really are brilliant and unlike what Sonam says in interviews she is very comfortable around her father on screen.

Then there is Rajkumar Rao what can be said about him but like many of his time middle, class small town boy is his second skin and her plays out this one as Sahil too brilliantly. Juhi Chawla too is there to good measure a-0n joining them as Sonam’s secret love is Regina Cassandra a southern actress who too is shining thru in this one. Together this ensemble cast takes a well-written plot forward with powerful easy acting.

Another special mention should go to Screenwriter Gazal Dhaliwal a trans woman herself who has told the story making all the points she needs while keeping it mainstream and entertaining.

What I like is the fact that Ek Ladki Ko Dekha To Aisa Laga is not set in tony South Mumbai where it is swish to be gay or lesbian but in earthy Moga where the girl has to fight battles on every front for her right to love as she likes.

The minus and there are very few is the film somewhere tends to take a preachy stand that takes it away from the reality of the situation. I barely noticed it at first but yes the sermon times are there.

All said Ek Ladki Ko Dekha To Aisa Laga is a film worth watching. It may not be a hundred crore film but its an entertaining film with a moral message.

I’d give the Ek Ladki Ko Dekha To Aisa Laga movie a rating of three stars out of five.
