Kangana Ranaut issued a legal notice to the Press Club of India and the Entertainment journalists’ guild for showing solidarity towards their journalist colleague Justin Rao, who indulged in a verbal spat with the actor at a promotional event.

In the notice, the legal firm Siddiquee and Associates said that neither Press Club of India nor the Entertainment Journalists guild had any legal standing or authority to boycott Kangana Ranaut.

Toeing Kanagana Ranut’s lines, the legal notice terms the actions of the media associations were “wrongful, immoral, unethical and illegal.”

The notice alleged that the PTI journalist who had an argument with Kangana Ranaut at the promotion of her upcoming movie Judgementall Hai Kya were “unprofessional and illegal activities by intentionally violating Norms of Journalistic Conduct and various other provisions of Press Council of India Act, 1978, by openly ridiculing, insulting, annoying, criminally intimidating and defaming” the actor.

The notice also said that the addressees cannot deny the fact that their members by virtue of being journalist should not contravene the provisions laid by the Press Council of India Act 1978 or the ‘Norms of Journalistic conduct and nor should the addressees extend support either directly or indirectly to such persons who are guilty of professional misconduct.

The notice warned if the journalist organizations do not rectify their alleged mistakes within 24 hours then Kangana Ranaut would be compelled to “initiate strict proceedings and other actions including seeking huge compensatory monetary damages from you.”

The Entertainment Journalists’ Guild of India on Tuesday decided to boycott Kangana Ranaut and denied her any media coverage in future.

“We, as a guild, have collectively decided to boycott Ms Kangana Ranaut and not give her any media coverage. Rest assured, we will not let this matter affect ‘Judgementall Hai Kya’ in any manner and will be supportive of your film and other cast members, barring Ms Ranaut,” read the letter by Guild addressed to Ekta Kapoor the producer of the film.
