Rani Mukherjee’s upcoming movie ‘’Mardaani 2’’ has already landed in trouble days after the release of its trailer. The residents of Kota city in Rajasthan met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Friday and raised objections about defaming their city.
In Mardaani 2 Rani’s character, Shivani Roy, a senior cop is investigating the murder and sexual assault of girls in Kota City.
Kota has become the educational hub of India with hundreds of coaching colleges for various competitive examinations including IIT, NEET, and UPSC. The residents feel the filmmakers are tarnishing the image and this will impact the careers of hundreds of students.
Om Birla after meeting the residents addressed the media. He said it is not acceptable to malign a city’s name. The story is fictional, but it mentions a real city’s name.
The residents staged a protest and demanded the filmmakers to remove Kota from the movie.
The trailer of Mardaani 2 was released on Thursday. Actor Rani Mukherjee received praise from fellow actors and her fans of her tough cop avatar in the movie.
The movie is a sequel to 2017 Mardaani also starring Rani in the lead role. The first installment focused on Human Trafficking, where Shivan’s (Rani) own niece is abducted.
Mardaani 2 is directed by Gopi Puthran and produced by Aditya Chopra under the Yash Raj Films banner.
The movie releases on December 13.
