Kangana Ranaunt who delivered a hit with her period drama Manikarnika: Queen of Jhansi, is all set to play former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa in her next film. The actress made an official announcement on her birthday today.
The film is titled ‘Thalavi’ in Tamil and Hindi. The film is bilingual and will be directed by AL Vijay, who has made landmark films like Madrasapattinam and Deiva Thirumagal.
Speaking on a biopic on Jayalalithaa and having Kangana on-board, director Vijay said, “Jayalalithaa madam was one of the most prominent leaders of our country. Making a film on her life is a big responsibility and we are going to do it with utmost care and honesty. I’m proud and happy with our association with one of India’s biggest star and the very talented Kangana Ranaut ji to portray the dynamic role of our very dynamic leader.”
Kangana Ranaut said late Jayalalithaa’s life is one of a great concept for a mainstream film.
“Jayalalithaa ji is one of the biggest female success stories of this century. She was a superstar and went on to become an iconic politician, it’s a great concept for a mainstream film. I am honoured to be a part of this mega project,” the Manikarnika actor said.
The film will be penned down by K.V. Vijayendra Prasad, who has also written Baahubali and Manikarnika. Vishnu Vardhan Induri & Shaailesh R Singh will jointly produce the movie under the banners of Vibri & Karma Media and Entertainment.
Jayalalithaa was a legendary leader who went on to become a politician after she made prominence as a film actress. She was the general secretary of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), a Dravidian party and was often referred as their Amma (mother), Puratchi Thalaivi(revolutionary leader) and Thanga Tharagai (golden maiden).
