After watching the upcoming trailers of ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’, ‘Uri’ and ‘Bal Thackeray’, it is clear that Bollywood is going gaga painting itself in the political colour. Many biopics of major political personalities are in the pipeline this January.
Off the block first in 2019 is the ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’ which released on the weekend of the 11th January. The film was loosely based on a Book by Journalist Sanjaya Baru is a profile of PM Manmohan Singh. After the trailer of the film was released petitions were filed to ban the trailer stating that it was defamatory in nature to leaders of the Congress party.
While the Iron was still hot in the first week of Jan itself Vivek Oberoi tweeted the first poster of ‘PM Modi’ a film based on the life and times of the mercurial BJP leader and current Prime Minister. The film is produced by Vivek’s Father Suresh Oberoi and will have Vivek essaying the lead role.
Interestingly, ‘PM Modi’ is not the only movie based on the life of the BJP leaders life. IN fact, there are four more films in which different actors will be seen playing the role of Narendra Modi.
Rajit Kapur in ‘URI’:
Rajit Kapur who will be seen as Narendra Modi in Aditya Dhar’s ‘URI’, Speaking about his role the actor said, in this film the aspect of the character is not of a public speaker but of a planner and a thinker. ‘I don’t really look like Mr Modi, but we have tried our best. Modi has a vision and I wanted to focus on the planner and strategist in him, mostly because the scenes show him taking important decisions. Unki personality mein jo thehraw hai who iss film mein nazar aayega.” To prepare himself for the role, Rajit watched Modi videos and avoided imitating him.
Laljit Devria in ‘Namo Saune Gamo’:
Bringing out the Gujarati nuances of PM Modi, Laljit Devria will be portraying Modi in Gujarati film ‘Namo Saune Gamo’. Laljit who has met PM Modi thrice. is of the belief that he looks like the Modi. K Amar, director of the film, said that the film was completed five years ago but couldn’t be released owing to “political issues. The film is our take on what happened during Modi’s tenure as CM,” he said.
KK Shukla in ‘Battalion 609’:
Directed by Brijesh Tripathi, Battalion 609 is a fictional story based on the Indian Army. KK Shukla, who originally portrayed PM Modi for a show on a news channel, will depict Narendra Modi in Battalion 609. “I am a big fan of Modi Saab,” said Tripathi.
PM Modi Biopic
In mid 2017 actor Paresh Rawal announced that he will make the biopic of PM Modi and will himself play his role. After Vivek Oberoi’s Modi look was released the actor said that there’s no one better than him who can play his role. He also confirmed that he is indeed working on a film on the PM. He said, “I am working on a film on Modi ji, but right now it’s on hold. The script is still being written. I can’t say much right now,” he said.
Given that this is the year of the General Elections the fact that there are a whole bunch of Biopics on PM Narendra Modi also means that the PM and the BJp will garner loads of mileage from these film
