The Jat community of Rajasthan has protested against the movie ‘Panipat’. The people accused the makers of distorting history and maligning the image of Bharatpur’s king, Maharaja Surajmal. They have demanded a ban on the screening of the movie. Panipat directed by Ashutosh Gowariker released on December 6.

Speaking on this matter, Chief Minister, Ashok Gehlot, said ‘’the respective department will examine the issue”.

The State Tourism Minister, Vishvendra Singh and Former Chief Minister, Vasundhra Raje, supported these protests.

The Arjun Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, and Kriti Sanon starrer movie revolves around the third battle of Panipat, fought between the Maratha Empire and the Afghan invaders. The movie portrays, Maharaja Surajmal, as a greedy ruler, who refused to help the Marathas in the battle against the invader.

The jat protests called the historical facts wrong and demanded a complete ban on the movie. some protests even burnt the effigies of Ashutosh Gowariker.  They also accused the makers of mixing a Haryanvi and Hindi language, while the ruler only spoke in Braj language.

The tourism minister, Vishvendra Singh, who is also a direct descent of Surajmal, came also joined the protest. ‘’ Leaving Jaipur shortly. Will be joining the protests in Bharatpur at 1 pm’’ , he wrote on Twitter.

Nagpur MP, Hanuman Beniwal, also requested the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to look into the matter.
