Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy, starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in the lead roles, is India’s official entry for the 92nd Oscar Awards for the Best International Feature Film category.
Zoya’s brother and noted director-actor Farhan Akhtar made the announcement on Twitter on Saturday, and also thanked the cast and crew of the film.

The film is a coming of age drama about an aspiring rapper named Murad (Ranveer Singh), who wishes to make a splash in the Indian music industry. Alia Bhatt plays his love interest in the film. Also featured in the film are Kalki Koechlin, Siddhnat Chaturvedi, Vijay Raaz and Vijay Varma in major roles.
Inspired by the lives of rappers Naezy and Devine, Gully Boy earned critical acclaim when it released on February 14 this year.

While the Gujrati film Chaal Jeevi Laiye was disqualified from the competition.
Gully Boy emerged as a major hit at the Indian box office as well as internationally. It received the Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC) Award at the 23rd Bucheon International Fantastic Festival (BIFAN) in South Korea.
Premiering at the Berlin Film Festival, the Indian hit also won the Best Film Award at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IIFM) this year
