The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) has infected over 2.5 Million people and claimed more than 171,000 lives. The United States alone has reported more than 42,000 deaths.
Fadela Chaib, World Health Organization’s spokesperson said at a briefing in Geneva today, “All available evidence suggests the coronavirus originated in bats and was not a laboratory construct.”
Fadela also said, “At this stage, it is not possible to determine precisely the source of the virus which caused the COVID-19 pandemic.” Chaib further added, “However, all available evidence suggests that the virus has a natural animal origin and is not a manipulated or constructed virus. The virus most probably has its ecological reservoir in bats.”
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump sealed the United States from the rest of the world by putting a temporary ban on immigration. This move comes as a measure to stop the spread of the novel coronavirus in the United States.
Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong announced on Tuesday that the country will observe the “circuit-breaker” coronavirus restrictions till 1st June. This comes on a day when Singapore reported over 1,100 fresh coronavirus cases and brought the country’s tally to 9,125.
Spain’s Pamplona’s town hall announced on Tuesday that the country’s famous San Fermin bull run has been canceled due to the coronavirus crisis.
Germany also canceled its Oktoberfest on Tuesday due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. The festival that was scheduled to begin on September 19 and conclude on October 4 has been canceled by the German officials amid the coronavirus scare.
Italy witnessed a decline in the number of active cases by about 20 people. The country reported 108,237 active cases on Monday. Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said, “Italy expects to release later this week its plan to slowly come out of lockdown with some loosened measures coming into effect on May 4.”
Strict measures are being implemented worldwide to combat the spread of COVID-19 and efforts are being made to restore normalcy too.
