In the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, the Indian government has decided to suspend all commercial domestic air travel from Wednesday, March 25. However the restrictions shall not apply to cargo flights.
Airlines have to plan operations so as to land at their destination before 11.59 pm on Tuesday, the government said.
The government’s announcement came as the number of coronavirus cases rose to 415 on Monday, with 8 fatalities.
International flights had already been banned for a week in the country to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus.
In order to effectively tackle the situation of the pandemic from spreading any further, several countries have sealed their borders and implemented travel restrictions.
19 states have gone on full lockdown in the country till March 31, the health ministry said today.
Originated in China’s Wuhan city, the deadly virus has claimed over 15,000 lives. More than 3,50,000 people have been diagnosed with coronavirus across the globe.
