Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Chennai to receive Chinese President Xi Jinping who is on a two-day visit to India and is scheduled to arrive in Chennai this afternoon.
This will be the second Wuhan-style informal summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Chinese President Xi Jinping on Saturday.
The bilateral summit will be held at the historic city of Mamallapuram earlier called Mahabalipuram. The two leaders will have a one to one talks followed by delegation level talks.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will personally receive the Chinese President and guide him through the ancient monuments like Arjuna’s penance, Ganesh Rath among others.
The two leaders will then drive to the famous Panch Rathas or the Five chariots of the panch pandavas (five brothers of the Hindu epic Mahabharata).
PM Modi and President Xi will also visit the shore temple where a grand cultural event is organized. The informal summit is expected to boost ties between India and China amid differences cropping out of various issues including Kashmir.
Mamallapuram is a designated UNESCO world heritage town that has civilizational links to China dating back to 7th century when a Chinese traveler Hieun Tsang who came to study the Buddhist centers of learning had visited the southern kingdom and wrote about the grandeur of the Pallava kings.
Multi layered security arrangements were made as the two of the world’s most powerful leaders come together. More than ten thousand police personnel were arranged to provide security to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
