In a latest update at least 35 people are dead and over 22 injured when an overloaded bus diverged from the road and fell into a deep gorge in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday Morning. 3 of them in a critical condition were reportedly airlifted to Jammu for treatment.
The accident is said to have occurred at around 7.50 am in Keshwan region. Kishtwar is around 230 kilometers from Jammu.
Earlier, Deputy Commissioner of Kishtwar, Angrez Singh Rana confirmed that 33 are dead and 22 injured after a matador vehicle coming from Keshwan to Kishtwar fell into a gorge today.
“At least 33 are dead and many others injured though exact details are yet to emerge. Rescue teams have been dispatched to the site of mishap,” said a police officer from the control room in Kishtwar district headquarters.
“The mini bus bearing registration number JK 17/6787 met with an accident in Keshwan area of Kishtwar district on Monday. Over twenty five passengers are feared dead and many others injured. Five of them are critically injured. The accident took place near Sirgwari area” said a local.
Locals were the first one to respond. The injured were immediately shifted to the district hospital in Kishtwar. Police have reached the site of mishap and rescue operations are underway.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed condolences to the families of the deceased.
