Eight Indians were killed when a tourist bus enroute Oman to Dubai met with an accident. The Bus was on its way from Oman to Dubai on Thursday evening. The Indian Consulate confirmed that 8 Indians were present among the 17 dead.

Police said the accident occurred when the bus overran a traffic signal and rammed into a signboard in Rashidiya exit. The bus was reportedly carrying 31 people. The exact cause for the accident was not established but the officials say even a minor error or negligence can turn fatal.

The victims were rushed to Rashid hospital in Dubai where they are being treated. According to sources 4 Indians were discharged after first aid while three others are undergoing the treatment.

The accident took place when the bus driver entered into a route that was not designated for the busses at the Al Rashidiya metro station. He rammed the bus into a sign board where there was a height barrier which slashed the rear window and killed the passengers sitting on the left side.

The Consulate General of India (CGI) took to twitter to inform about the details of the accident. CGI wrote “We are sorry to inform that as per local authorities and relatives it is so far confirmed that 8 Indians have passed away in Dubai bus accident. Consulate is in touch with relatives of some of the deceased & awaits further details for others to inform their families.”

CGI tweeted the names of the deceased as follows- “The names of those who have passed away are: Mr. Rajagopalan, Mr. Feroz Khan Pathan, Mrs. Reshma Feroz Khan Pathan, Mr. Deepak Kumar, Mr. Jamaludeen Arakkaveettil, Mr. Kiran Johnny, Mr. Vasudev, Mr. Tilakram Jawahar Thakur.” 

The Consul General is said to have met the near and dear ones of the deceased to reassure them all the help needed.

In another tweet CGI expressed condolences to the families of the deceased for the deep loss. “Our Consulate expresses sincere condolences to the families of those who passed away in this tragic accident. CG along with other officials and community members met the concerned relatives as well as hospital and police authorities late in the night to assure of all help,” CGI tweeted.
