The woman identified as Mamta Rathi allegedly jumped in a bid to kill herself while also killing the senior citizen, Balubhai Gamit.

Rathi was a resident of Surat, while Gamit was a retired teacher and lived in the same colony where the incident took place.

Police said the incident happened in Parishkar Residential Society at around 6.30 am. Rathi jumped from the balcony of her 13th floor apartment in the Amraiwadi area while, at the same time, Gamit was going for a morning walk, a police official said.

According to the police, the woman was not in a sound state of mind.

Amraiwadi police station in-charge R T Udavat said:

“The deceased woman’s parents stay in the same society and she used to stay with her husband in Surat. Also, she was on medication and was not in a sound state of mind for the past few days. She was here to meet her parents. We did not find any suicide note from her house.”
