There is a sense of glee flowing in the air after Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman returned to India on March 1. Abhinandan was captured by Pakistan Army after the MiG 21 Bison he was flying crashed.
He returned to India via Attari-Wagah border at around 9:20 pm, where swarm of people were waiting to catch the glimpse of the braveheart.
As twitter flooded with the wishes and celebrations on Abhinandan’s return, Amul in its unique style also honoured the pilot with its latest doodle.
The dairy band showed the gallant “air warrior” with his signature moustache being welcomed with a buttery delight. Adorned with a garland for his joyous return, the Amul Girl is seen with a puja thaali in hand, with lamp for welcoming the hero back into India. With a tagline, “Aa bhi jao humare pass…(Just come back to us now).”

The cartoon highlighted the sentiments of the citizens of the country who had been waiting for his return since Wednesday.
Amul’s doodle quickly caught the attention of many social media users on Twitter and Instagram.

On February 27, Wing Commander Abhinandan, while flying the MiG 21 Bison chased down Pakistani F-16 fighters, which had transgressed into the Indian airspace. In this process, his plane crossed over the border and was shot down. Pakistani Army took him in its custody.
After nearly 60 hours in Pakistan’s custody, Abhinandan was released on March 1. He was accompanied by Dr Fariha Bugti, Director India in Pakistan’s Foreign Office and Pakistani army personnel till the border.
