Army Officer Ponung Doming became the first woman officer from Arunachal Pradesh to be elevated to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Indian Army. She is the first woman to be elevated to such rank from the eastern most state.

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu congratulated Ponung Doming for her achievements.

Pema Khandu took to twitter and said “A proud moment for all of us, Major Ponung Doming creates history. She is the first woman army officer from Arunachal Pradesh to be elevated to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in eth Indian Army. Hearty congratulations and best wishes!”

Local media reported Ponung Doming saying that she is extremely happy and satisfied over her promotion and that it gives her more responsibility towards the nation.

Last month, Wing Commander Shaliza Dhami became the first woman officer of the Indian Air Force to be elevated as the Flight Commander of a flying unit.
