Indian women’s squash team enter finals by knocking out the defending champion Malaysia in semi-finals on August 30 at the on-going Asian Games 2018 at Jakarta, Indonesia. Indian team comprising of Joshna Chinappa, Sunyana Kuruvilla, Tanvi Khanna and Dipika Pallikal Karthik defeated Malaysia 2-0 and assured itself of a silver medal. Indian women squash team will either meet Hong Kong or Japan in the final.
Joshna Chinappa defeated world No.6 Nicol David 10-12, 9-11, 12-10, 9-11. Chinappa had earlier defeated David for the first time in April this year, at the El Gouna International Squash Tournament in Egypt.
After David’s defeat, it was Dipika Pallikal’s turn to take over. It was a tricky match for Pallikal but she eventually pulled through as she beat Malaysian Open Champion Low Wee Wern 2-11, 9-11, 6-11. Before this, Malaysia had never failed to win gold in women’s event at the Asian Games ever since the event was introduced at the Guangzhou 2010 games.
India’s medal tally reaches 59 with 13 gold, 21 silver and 25 bronze in the Asian Games 2018.
