Manjit Singh won gold in men’s 800 meters event while Jinson Johnson bagged silver medal in the same event on Tuesday in the on-going Asian Games at Jakarta, Indonesia.
This is India’s 9th gold medal in the Asian Games 2018.
Manjit Singh finished off the race at first position with a clock timing of 1:46:15 minutes while Jinson Johnson came second with the timing of 1:46:35 minutes. Abdalla Abubaker of Qatar finished off third with a time of 1:46:38 minutes in the race. Manjit Singh gradually picked up his pace in the final stage of the race and finished off 0.20 faster than Jinson.
Two more medals were added in India’s medal tally after Pincky Balhara and Malaprabha Yallappa bagged silver and bronze medals in Kurash, a form of wrestling indigenous to Central Asia respectively. India’s medal tally now stands at 50 with 9 gold, 19 silver, and 22 bronze.
Charles Borromeo bagged last gold for India in 800m at the 1982 Asian Games.
