Caught in yet another savage act, two Uttar Pradesh cops were seen brutally thrashing a man over alleged traffic violations in the Siddharth Nagar district of the state.

In a video that went viral on Wednesday, a police sub-inspector (SI) and a head constable are seen roughing up a man on the road. SI Virendra Mishra is seen locking the man’s neck with his legs, while head constable Mehandra Prasad kicks the man repeatedly in his back.

The man under attack pleads the police officials to let him go, but they don’t stop beating him while passers-by move on unaffected without intervening. Also seen in the video is a child, accompanying the man, who looks on as his loved one is thrashed.

The man identified as Rinku Pandey, a mobile shop owner, was returning home when he the two officials intercepted him at Sarkarar crossing and began assaulting him.

Towards the end of the video, the cops can be seen threatening to keep him till he gives up his motorcycle keys. Pandey refuses to give the keys, asking what his fault was.

Police have alleged that Pandey was drunk and abusing another youth from his locality.

In view of the brutality that surfaced, the two policemen have been suspended.

Siddharth Nagar SP Dharam Veer Singh said the accused policemen have been suspended for their “unacceptable behaviour”. The SP said the police received information by a man named Akhtar, who accused Pandey of abusing him in an inebriated state.

Veer Singh added:

“The policemen dealt with the situation in an unacceptable manner. It was a disgusting and condemnable act of indiscipline. Following an inquiry by our SP Sadar, we suspended the policemen.”

The man was allowed to go, added Singh.
