Four Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were killed and two other were injured in an encounter with Maoists in Chattisgarh’s Kanker.
The gunfight started at around 12 noon when Maoists opened fire on the soldiers when they were out this morning for a search operation.
Two other personnel were injured in the encounter, which took place in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district, thirty-five kilometers from Pankhajur, police said, adding that the encounter went on for over three hours.
“Four BSF troopers were killed and two injured in the incident,” Deputy Inspector General said.
Reinforcement was rushed to the spot, he added.
Last week, at least four alleged Maoists were killed in an encounter with a joint team of the CRPF’s COBRA battalion, and the Chhattisgarh police force in Sukma district.
Polling in the Kanker Lok Sabha constituency will be held along with two other seats – Mahasamund and Rajnandgaon – in the second phase of Lok Sabha elections in Chhattisgarh on April 18.
