A day after a local court in Uttar Pradesh rejected the bail plea of the 23-year-old law student, who had accused former BJP minister Chinmayanand of rape, her father on Tuesday said they would move the high court against the order.
The complainant’s father said he had also written to Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi three days ago. They believe it to be a conspiracy to force them to drop the charges against the influential politician, he said.
The father was quoted by reporters as saying:
“My daughter is a victim. Injustice has been done to her and she has been put in the jail. Now I have got information through our sources that our opponents could try to frame us in fake cases so that we withdraw from this fight for justice.”
The complainant’s father said they didn’t want to indulge in any sort of politics but they were forced to seek the Gandhi family’s help.
District Judge Rambabu Sharma on Monday had dismissed bail pleas of both Chinmayanand and the law student. The woman was earlier arrested for allegedly trying to extort Rs 5 crore from the BJP leader. The Special Investigative Team (SIT) probing her said she confessed to the crime.
Chinmayanand, who was admitted in a hospital in Lucknow after his arrest, was discharged on Monday evening. He was then taken to the Shahjahanpur jail.
