Surat, fire, Gujarat, 10 feared dead, complex

Death toll in Surat fire accident increased to 21 on Saturday morning. Most of the victims were reportedly students between the age group of 8 to 15 years. The victims were assumed to be the students of the coaching centre  but the latest reports reveal the kids were attending some extra-curricular classes during summer vacation. An FIR was filed against the builders of the complex- Harshal Vekaria, Jignesh and the owner of the coaching centre Bhargav Bhutani.

The fire broke out on the third and fourth floors of the Taxshila complex. According to eye witnesses some of the students jumped off the building to escape burns. As per reports the building had only one entry and exit point and lacked fire safety equipment.

Ahmedabad Municipal commissioner ordered all the coaching centres that lack fire safety protocol to be shut down after the tragic incident.

21 people were feared dead and several others trapped after a massive fire broke on the second floor of the Taxshila complex at Surat’s Sarthana on Friday.

According to Surat Police Commissioner Satish Kumar Mishra, death toll may rise.

At least 19 fire tenders were deployed on the spot and the rescue operations are underway.

The videos of the tragic incident were shared on social media in which students can be seen jumping from the second floor of the building. The initial investigation has said that a short circuit cause the fire.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in tweet have asked  “the Gujarat Government and local authorities to provide all possible assistance to those affected.”

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has ordered an investigation into the incident. CM has also declared financial help of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of children who died in this incident.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot also expressed grief on tragic incident.

BJP President Amit Shah in a tweet expressed anguish on Surat fire and urged BJP karyakartas in Surat to assist the people in need.

Union Minister JP Nadda has directed  the AIIMS trauma centre director to render all help. Following this, a team of doctors from burn & trauma department of AIIMS Delhi has been constituted and put on alert.
