A software engineer from Karnataka’s Udupi was stabbed to death and his wife was severely injured by a Guinean near German city Munich.
Prashanth Basarur, 49, and his wife Smitha were, 43, were brutally stabbed by a Guinean who was, supposedly, their neighbour. A clear case of hate crime, Prashant was stabbed several times before being left to die. His wife Smita is critical.
Foreign minister Sushma Swaraj tweeted that the couple had been stabbed by an “immigrant” near Munich. Indian authorities said preliminary investigations did not seem to suggest that it was a case of hate crime.
Indian couple Prashant and Smita Basarur were stabbed by an immigrant near Munich. Unfortunately, Prashant has expired. Smita is stable. We are facilitating the travel of Prashant’s brother to Germany. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. /1

The couple belonged to Udupi’s Kundapur. Smitha’s family have been informed and her brother is likely to fly to Germany, an officer added.
According to reports, the couple has been living in Germany for 18 years. They have a son and a daughter who are currently taken care of by the government.
A probe has been initiated for the crime. The murderer is yet to be identified. More details are awaited.
