The Floor Test in the Madhya Pradesh State Assembly will take place on Monday. On Saturday, Governor Lalji Tandon had directed a floor test will be held in the Assembly on March 16.
The Kamal Nath Government will have to prove its majority but the Madhya Pradesh Assembly Speaker, NP Prajapati, will have the final call.
On being asked whether the floor test will be conducted tomorrow, Speaker NP Prajapati said: “You will get to know about it tomorrow only. I will not tell you about my decision in advance”.
Earlier in the day, Congress’ MPs arrived in Bhopal from Jaipur, Rajasthan and were accompanied by senior Congress leader Harish Rawat, who exuded the confidence of Kamal Nath-led Government winning the floor test.
“We are ready for floor test tomorrow and we are confident of winning it. We are
not nervous, the BJP is,” Rawat told reporters.
On the other hand, 21 Rebel MLAs from Jyotiradiya Scindia’s camp were offloaded to Ramada Hotel in Bengaluru. After Jyotiraditya Scindia’s resignation from the Congress party, these MLAs claimed to have resigned from the state Legislative Assembly.
After Speaker NP Prajapati accepted resignations of six Legislators out of 22 rebel Congress MLAs on Saturday, the BJP claimed the Kamal Nath government has lost majority and demanded that a floor test be held before the Budget session starts on Monday.
Consequently, the strength of the house is down to 222, with the majority mark at 112. The Congress now has 92 seats, but before the rebellion, the tally was 114. The Congress also has the support of Four Independent, two Bahujan Samaj Party and one Samajwadi Party MLAs.
