Over 20,000 farmers and tribals arrived at Maharashtra’s Dadar on Thursday morning. The protest march ‘Lok Sangharsh Morcha’ began on Wednesday which comprises of farmers and tribals from North Maharashtra, Vidarbha, Ahmednagar and other parts of the state. The farmers are demanding loan waiver, drought compensation and the transfer of forest rights to tribals.The march will culminate at Azad Maidan today.
The key demands made by the farmers include: implementation of Swaminathan Committee Report, remaining claims under the Forest Rights Act (FRA), minimum support price for their produce and setting up of a judicial system to ensure its robust implementation, complete farm loan waiver and drought compensation of Rs 50,000 per acre for non-irrigated lands and Rs 1 lakh per acre for irrigated lands.
Amidst protests, Mumbai Police have issued traffic advisory and listed out all the troubled areas.
Commuters starting journey from South Mumbai using JJ flyover, Lalbagh flyover and Parel flyover towards Dadar are advised to avoid & use Slip Roads till 10 AM. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Maharashtra had extended their support to the protesting farmers and tribals. The rally will also be attended by water conservationist Dr Rajendra Singh, MP Raju Shetty and others.
