A 24-year-old man took his life after stabbing his girlfriend on Monday afternoon at her house in Mumbai’s Malad East.
The man identified as Mangesh Rane killed his girlfriend after she decided to end their relationship. He then jumped off from the woman’s 10th floor flat.
According to the Police, Rane and the woman — in her twenties — were in a relationship for the last one-and-a-half years. She used to stay in a Slum Rehabilitation Authority building in the same area. Rane, an employee of a housekeeping company, stayed in Ambedkar Nagar in Kurar, Malad East.
A police officer told that Rane was enraged after the woman told him she didn’t want to continue the relationship any longer.
Around noon on Monday, Rane allegedly stabbed the woman with a knife and subsequently jumped to his death, dying on the spot. While police and neighbours broke open the door of the woman’s home and rushed her to the hospital in critical condition.
The Kurar Police has booked the accused man posthumously under section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
