Heavy rains lashed Mumbai on Wednesday bringing the thronging city to a halt. Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted more rains on July 24 and 25.

Met department says many parts of Maharashtra may witness extremely heavy rainfall due to a cyclonic circulation that is developing near Mumbai. Heavy rains created traffic snarls on city roads.

Three cars collided with each other injuring 8 people in Mumbai’s Andheri due to low visibility following heavy rainfall early morning on Wednesday.

The heavy rains have already disturbed the Mumbai city suburban rail lines causing inconvenience to the commuters. Train services are available on all the four corridors of Central Railways and are running with a delay of 10- 15 minutes as the rail tracks were submerged in many areas.

Severe water logging was witnessed in many parts including Gandhi market in Sion, King’s circle, Andheri, Matunga, Malad and Dahisar among others. According to Skymet weather agency, Mumbai received 51 mm rainfall in three hours on Wednesday morning.

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is gearing up for more water logged conditions in the city for the next few days. BMC has already issued traffic advisory in the city. Traffic on several routes were diverted.

Flights are expected to be delayed due to low visibility due to heavy rains near the airport. Vistara Airlines wrote on its twitter handle saying due to heavy rains in Mumbai, flights to and from Mumbai may be impacted throughout the day.
