In Gurugram, one Muslim man Mohammed Barkat Alam (25) was beaten up by a group of people while he was returning after offering namaz.
Barkat Ali was allegedly asked to remove his skullcap and was forced to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai.’
When he refused to oblige, they reportedly thrashed him and fled. The incident took place at around 10 pm on Friday when Barkat Alam was returning after offering prayers at Jama Masjid in Gurugram.
Onlookers took the 25 year old to a nearby hospital where he recorded his statement and police filed an FIR against the culprits. His statement said “I was returning after offering namaz. A few men came on a bike and said wearing a skullcap is not allowed in the area. When I refused to take it off they abused me and beat me.”
Barkhat told that he was asked to say ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and when he refused they beat him up. He added when he tried to escape, the unidentified men held him and tore his kurta.
Mohammed Barkat Alam hails from Begusarai and had come to Gurugram to learn tailoring.
However police denied the allegations that Barkat was asked to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’. They told nothing of that sort was reported by the victim and that the investigation is underway.
Newly elected cricketer turned politician Gautam Gambhir who won from East Delhi seat demanded stringent action against the attackers.
