Government Authorities in the United Kingdom (UK) have confirmed the presence of PNB fraud accused Nirav Modi, in the country. Reacting the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has now sent an extradition request for Modi to the Union home ministry. Earlier on 2 July, the CBI has also requested the UK authorities to detain Nirav Modi, after the Interpol issued a red corner notice against the diamond trader.
Nirav Modi, along with his uncle and Gitanjali Gems Ltd promoter Mehul Choksi, were declared the prime accused in the ? 14,356 crore PNB fraud. India’s biggest ever.
Evading arrest Nirav Modi along with his wife Ami Modi, brother Nishal Modi, uncle Mehul Choksi, left India in the first week of January. Thereafter, India had cancelled the passports of all the accused.
Does this mean that Modi and his kin will be extradited soon? A case for extradition against the liquor tycoon Vijay Malaya is already being heard in Britain court over the last six months.
