In an appalling incident, four nurses in Odisha’s Malkangiri district hospital were found indulged in extreme medical negligence after their TikTok videos of frolicking inside the special neonatal care unit (SNCU) went viral on social media on Wednesday.
Following this, the Chief district medical officer (CDMO) of Malkangiri, Ajit Kumar Mohanty sent the nurses on compulsory leave. The nurses will remain sabbatical until investigation is over in the matter.
Earlier, CMDO gave show cause notice to the nurses to which they had to reply within 24 to 48 hours. He further added that the department will take strict action against them.
“I probed and informed officers and Collector. They (nurses) will be given show-cause notice and 24-48 hours to give reply over this. The department will take action against them,” Ajit Kumar Mohanty said.

Odisha Health Minister Nabakishore Das also reacted on the incident, he said the department will investigate the matter and appropriate action as per law will be taken against the accused.
“I have asked for a report from the department, asking them the fact. They will investigate the matter. After I get a report from the department, I’ll take appropriate action as per law,” Odisha Health Minister said.

In the videos, the nurses can be seen dancing to songs and lip-syncing to funny dialogues inside the special neonatal care unit in their uniforms. The hospital beds and patients can also be seen in the video. In one of the videos, a nurse can be seen lifting a new-born, while she lip-synchronize with a popular Bollywood song playing in the background.
The nurses, identified as Nandini Ray, Ruby Ray, Tapasi Biswas and Jyoti Ray, received flak after the videos went viral on social media. Many people demanded suspension of all those involved, including hospital authorities over the lapses.
The incident came just a day after Niti Aayog released its Health Index, which puts Odisha in the list of worst performing states in terms of various health parameters.
