President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National Working President J.P Nadda and several key BJP leaders paid their tributes to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his first death anniversary.
Other than senior leaders across the party lines, the family of former PM, adopted daughter Namita Kaul Bhattacharya and granddaughter Niharika also paid tributes at the BJP stalwart’s memorial, Sadaiv Atal, on Friday.
In December last year, the memorial was dedicated to the nation. The memorial comprises of a central samadhi platform with granite stone blocks, with a diya or jyot in the centre.
Bharat Ratna Vajpayee died last year in August at the All India India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) after a long illness at 93.

He was one of the founding members of the Bharatiya Janata Party in 1980, and efficiently build the organisation after Bhartiya Jana Sangh, then part of the Janata Party government was dissolved.
Many political analysts credit him for the explosive win of the party winning 303 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, from only two seats in 1984.
He served as Prime Minister thrice — briefly in 1996, and then for two terms between 1998 and 2004, the first-ever leader from the party to hold the position.
A poet, a journalist, a swayamsevak and a politician, he was accorded the highest civilian award, Bharat Ratna in 2014 by the Modi government.
December 25, his birthday, is celebrated as ‘Good Governance Day’ by the government.
