As many as five people, including a child, were reported dead after a wall collapsed in Sahakar Nagar in Pune on Wednesday.
The region has received heavy rainfall for several hours, leading to the incident.
During the rescue operations carried out by the fire brigade officials, the bodies were recovered.
“Pained to know about the loss of lives in and around Pune due to heavy rains. My deepest condolences to the families. We are providing all possible assistance needed. State disaster management officials & control room in continuous touch with Pune collector and PMC,” Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said in a tweet.
Several low-lying areas in and around Pune were flooded as heavy rain lashed the city on Wednesday.
Water-logging was reported in Sinhgad Road, Dhanakwadi, Balajinagar, Ambegaon, Sahakar Nagar, Parvati, Kolhewadi and Kirkatwadi.
As per reports, Pune is likely to receive thunderstorms on September 27, October 4 and October 10. On remaining days, the city is expected to receive moderate rainfall.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had on Wednesday forecasted severe thunderstorm in Mumbai and adjoining areas in Maharashtra.
Pune district collector Naval Kishore Ram has declared holiday on Thursday in all schools and colleges in the cities following heavy rain in the region, a media report said.
