PM Narendra Modi officially unveils Statue of Unity at Kevadiya, Gujarat on Wednesday, October 31. He pulled a lever for virtual ‘abhishek’ to mark the inauguration. Kiran aircraft flew past the statue leaving a tricolour blaze in the sky behind.

“The entire nation is celebrating ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’ today to celebrate Sardar Patel’s birth anniversary,” said PM Modi addressing the gathering.

Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani thanked PM Modi for the statue while addressing the gathering.

Along with the PM, CM Rupani, Deputy CM Nitin Patel, Madhya Pradesh governor Anandiben Patel, and BJP chief Amit Shah occupied the stage on the occasion.

Earlier in the day, a cultural programme was organised at the venue for the PM. A walk through the tent city followed the event. Before reaching Gujarat in a chopper, “We bow to the great Sardar Patel, the stalwart who unified India and served the nation tirelessly, on his Jayanti,” PM tweeted.

He also paid tribute to former PM Indira Gandhi on her death anniversary.

While in Delhi, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh flagged off the Run for Unity from Dhyanchand stadium. The NDA government has lined up a series of events to honour the ‘Iron Man of India’
