A woman has been killed and another civilian injured on Wednesday as unidentified gunmen opened fire on civilians in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama, reported ANI.

Police officials said militants were behind the attack, who barged inside the woman’s house and started firing.

“#Terrorists fired on #civilians killing a girl Nigeena Bano  & injuring another civilian Mohd Sultan in #Pulwama. #Police has registered a #case. Officers are investigating circumstances of this #terrorcrime”,  the state police tweeted after the killing.

A police official told PTI the militants fired upon the woman, identified as Nigeena Bano, who was reportedly declared brought dead to hospital while the civilian identified as Mohd Sultan was in critical condition.

“While the lady succumbed to injuries, the injured man has been rushed to a hospital”, he told reporters.

The woman’s husband was also killed in 2017 by militants, according to sources.

Security forces have killed 101 militants in J&K counter-terror operations since the beginning of this year, acting on intelligence inputs provided by informants on the ground.

In 2017, between the first five months of the year, security forces killed 57 militants, while in 2018, the number rose to 70 for the period.

Most counter-terror operations were executed in south Kashmir’s four districts – Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam and Anantnag.
