DMK leader Kanimozhi slammed the BJP government for harassing opposition by using the Income Tax department. A day before Tamil Nadu goes to polls IT officials conducted raids at DMK leader Kanimozhi‘s residence in Tuticorin on Tuesday. The group of 10 Officials arrived at Kanimozhi’s house based on the tip off from the district collector but found nothing.
“BJP cannot prevent my success through his income tax raid. The raid is anti-democratic, deliberately planned and implemented and in the end they found nothing” said Kanimozhi as quoted by ANI.
Kanimozhi, sister of DMK chief M K Stalin is contesting from Thoothukudi Lok Sabha seat. The DMK leader reportedly took the house on rent after the party announced her candidature.
When the officials arrived DMK leader Kanimozhi was present in the house and cooperated fully with the officials. Following a false tip-off the officials searched for lots of cash stashed up on the top floor of Kanimozhi’s house but found nothing.
Meanwhile DMK chief accused BJP candidate in Tuticorin Tamilisai Soundararajan of storing huge amounts of cash in her backyard. “Would the IT go and conduct searches at her (BJP candidate’s) residence on my tipoff? Why no raids at her place? BJP is using all central agencies to suppress opposition including the CBI, IT dept, Judiciary and Election Commission? Who is supposed to take action on this?” he lashed out.
Adding to this, the DMK Chief said “the BJP is acting in fear of losing the elections that is why they are threatening the opposition into submission. DMK is not a party that can be intimidated so easily.”
The Party workers staged demonstration condemning the actions of the ruling government. Last week IT raids were conducted at 18 locations in Tamil Nadu alone, all at the places owned by the opposition leaders including DMK party treasurer Sabesan.
Tamil Nadu goes to polls on Thursday i.e, Aprill 18th.
