Arun Jaitley cremated with full state honours in Delhi

Leaders from across political spectrum and people alike bid a tearful adieu to the Former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Sunday.

The BJP stalwart Jaitley was cremated with full state honours at Delhi’s Nigambodh Ghat.

His son Rohan performed the last rites in the presence of Jaitley’s wife Sangeeta, daughter Sonali, relatives and friends.

Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev were seen in the front rows at the funeral.

The body of Jaitley was brought to Nigambodh Ghat from the BJP headquarters at around 2 pm.

Earlier in the morning, his body was taken to the BJP office on Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg from his residence in Kailash Colony in an army vehicle with his big portrait in the front.

BJP leaders and cadres queued up outside the party office where his body was wrapped in the national flag.

Party’s national president Amit Shah, working President J.P. Nadda and other BJP leaders paid floral tributes at the party headquarters.

On Saturday, PM Modi in an emotional speech in Bahrain paid tributes to the departed leader.

“With the demise of Arun Jaitley Ji, I have lost a valued friend, whom I have had the honor of knowing for decades. His insight on issues and nuanced understanding of matters had very few parallels. He lived well, leaving us all with innumerable happy memories. We will miss him!”, PM Modi said in his speech.

PM Modi is abroad and couldn’t attend the funeral. He offered to come back on Saturday, but was stopped by Jaitley’s family.

The veteran BJP leader breathed his last Saturday afternoon at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi where he was admitted since August 9.
