Training its gun towards the Gandhi “family alliance”, BJP on Wednesday named Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s formal entry into the Congress as an admission by the party that Rahul Gandhi has “failed” in exhibiting proper leadership, the BJP.
Sambit Patra, the BJP spokesperson, said that Congress is resorting to “family alliance” as its initially proposed grand alliance failed to bear fruit.
“As the Congress is not being accepted as part of ‘mahagatbandhan’ in states, a crutch is being searched in the family. Priyanka, who is from his (Rahul’s) family, is like a crutch for him,” he added.
Patra came out with the BJP’s response soon after the Congress announced that Vadra will be its general secretary for East Uttar Pradesh, marking her formal entry into the party.
In his statement, taking a dig at the opposition party, Patra said the basic difference between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress was, “Party is the family for the BJP whereas family is the party for Congress. All selections are done in only one family. Somewhere Rahul has failed… Who will be the next after Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi? Only one family! The new India is asking this question.”
Patra added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has projected the Lok Sabha elections as a battle between “naamdar” (dynasts) and “kaamdar” (those who have worked).
BJP leaders echoed Sambit Patra as they took to Twitter.
Vadra will take charge in the first week of February.
