Budget 2020

On Saturday, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented her second Budget as the Finance Minister in the Modi government.

While the finance minister termed this Budget as the Growth Budget for 2020, opposition and other political parties have vehemently opposed this Budget.

Let’s take a look at some of the reactions on the Budget:

Rahul Gandhi described the Budget as nothing but ‘hollow’ saying, “Maybe this was the longest Budget speech in history but it had nothing, it was hollow.” The Congress leader further added that the government did not present any strategic idea on unemployment. “The main issue facing is unemployment. I didn’t see any strategic idea that would help our youth get jobs. I saw tactical stuff but no central idea. It describes govt well, a lot of repetition, rambling, it is the mindset of govt, all talk, but nothing happening,” he said.

The official handle of Congress party tweeted that the Budget 2020 has failed to layout a roadmap or plan on how the govt plans to address this serious issue.

Targetting Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman over the three themes of Union Budget 2020-21, Congress leader Kapil Sibal said that the ‘aspirational India’ is protesting and concerned about their future. “Sitharaman talked about three themes. The first one was ‘aspirational India’. I want to tell that aspirational India is protesting, disturbed and concerned about their future,” said Sibal.

The Congress leader alleged that the government is not willing to listen to aspirational India.

“How they will deal with concerns of aspirational India if they do not listen to them?” he asked.
