After the hearing of bail plea of P. Chidambaram in INX media case, Delhi Court has extended the judicial custody of former finance minister till December 11.
INX Media case is the case of money laundering which is related to the alleged irregularities in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance to media group INX Media receiving overseas funds to the tune of Rs 307 crore during the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government.
Special judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar passed the order after ED said that since the probe is still on, the ex-Finance Minister should be kept in the judicial custody and hence urged the court to extend his judicial custody by 14 days.
The counsel for the 74-year old senior Congress leader did not oppose ED’s plea.
Chidambaram is in judicial custody since August 21when he was arrested by the CBI. His plea for an anticipatory bail in the case was rejected on August 20 by Delhi High Court. Later on September 5, the apex court sent P Chidambaram to Tihar jail for two weeks. He was again sent to jail on October 17 as his bail plea was rejected.
The case also holds allegation against the Congress leader’s son Krati Chidambaram as the ED also found papers related to the company that was associated with Krati
