Sushma Swaraj

Former External Affairs Minister and senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj passed away due to a massive cardiac arrest at AIIMS, New Delhi. She was 67.

Late evening today, Sushma Swaraj was rushed to AIIMS as she complained of severe chest pain.

Sushma Swaraj was brought to AIIMS around 9:30 pm and was immediately admitted to the emergency ward.

BJP top brass including Smriti Irani, Nitin Gadkari, Rajnath Singh, Manoj Tewari, Dr. Harshvardhan and SS Ahluwalia were all present in the hospital premises when AIIMS doctors shared the sad news of Swaraj’s demise.

The political fraternity has expressed both shock and grief over the untimely demise of Sushma Swaraj.

Just three hours before her death, Sushma Swaraj thanked Prime Minister Modi over the article 370 abrogation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled her death on social media. He also said that Sushma Swaraj was a prolific orator and she had immensely contributed to BJP’s growth.

The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind also condoled her death on Twitter saying that Sushma Swaraj epitomised dignity as a leader and will always be remembered for her humanitarian beliefs and service to the people of India.

Swaraj has been ailing for quite some time and had also undergone a kidney transplant in 2016. She did not contest in the last Lok Sabha elections and also opted out the Modi cabinet 2.0 for health reasons.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also expressed grief and shock over Swaraj’s demise.

Sushma Swaraj’s mortal remains will be kept at the BJO headquarters till 11 am and her last rites will be performed at the Lodhi Road crematorium around 3 pm.
