After the death of a 10-year-old girl in Wayanad district of Kerela due to snakebite and negligence of the teachers and hospital Revolutionary Socialist Party on Friday gave an adjournment motion notice in Lok Sabha.
Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi also wrote a letter to the Chief Minister and General Education Department urging them to conduct an infrastructure audit of public schools in Wayanad.
The girl was bitten by a snake when her foot got stuck in a hole in her 5th std classroom. When her foot was pulled out, there were two red spots on her foot. The students did raise suspicion on the spots being that of a snake bite, the teachers did not pay any attention.
Only after the girl’s father came after 30 minutes, she was taken to the hospital, where she was referred to another. Her condition severely worsened and she was declared dead.
Following the incident, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan warned that strict action will be taken against those responsible for the lapses. Kerala Health Minister KK Shailaja ordered the suspension of the doctor in Bathery Taluk Hospital who failed to diagnose the snake bite.
When an adjournment motion is admitted, all other normal agendas of the day for the Parliament session is kept aside and the matter is discussed. The parliament’S winter session has begun since November 18 and will continue till December 21. Issues like Delhi Pollution, JNU protest, NRC and other major Bills have been scheduled to be discussed.
