Former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Wednesday moved the Delhi High Court seeking regular bail in the INX Media case.

He has also challenged the Special CBI Court’s order remanding him to judicial custody in Tihar jail till September 19.

In this regard, the Delhi High Court listed the hearing of Chidambaram’s bail plea as well as his plea challenging the trial court order for September 12.

The Congress leader, who was arrested by the CBI on August 21, was sent to judicial custody in Tihar jail on September 5 after the maximum period of police custody had expired.

In his plea, Chidambaram has argued that his arrest by the CBI was illegal and an abuse of the process of law.

Earlier in the day, Chidambaram expressed concern over the state of economy and questioned the government to help the country overcome this “decline and gloom”.

His family tweeted from his official handle on his behalf:

“I am deeply concerned about the economy. The poor are the worst affected. Lower, fewer jobs, less trade and lower investment affect the poor and the middle class. Where is the plan to get the country out of this decline and gloom.”

The Congress leader also praised the poor people for their capacity to differentiate between justice and injustice.

Chidambaram called on authorities to not arrest officers who were involved in granting clearances to INX Media during his tenure as the finance minister. No one did anything wrong, he added.
